Registrations for 2009 HPAT-Ulster are now open.  The test will be held on Saturday, 31 January 2009.

HPAT-Ulster

The Health Professions Admission Test (HPAT-Ulster) is used in the selection process by the University of Ulster only*. All applicants for 2009 entry to the following courses at University of Ulster, must in addition to applying through UCAS in the normal way, register for HPAT-Ulster and take the test on Saturday 31 January 2009.

Registrations for 2009 HPAT-Ulster are now open. Please download and read the 2008-2009 Information Booklet before you register.

*PLEASE NOTE: If you are applying to one of the medical schools (i.e. National University of Ireland Galway, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork, University College Dublin), you should be applying to sit HPAT-Ireland (which is a different test from HPAT-Ulster) at http://www.hpat-ireland.acer.edu.au/

Who is eligible to sit HPAT-Ulster?

HPAT-Ulster is available to any candidate whose educational level at the time of sitting the test is in the final year of secondary schooling or higher and is capable of meeting the academic entry requirements (including pre-requisite subjects at "A" Level or equivalent) set by the University of Ulster.

Candidates registering for 2009 HPAT-Ulster should have already completed their final year of schooling, or plan to complete it in 2009.

Admissions testing for Entry Degrees

Universities are increasingly moving to select students on the basis of a wider set of objective criteria than academic results alone. The use of a purpose-designed admission test assists in the process by providing evidence of skills and abilities that are not directly measured by academic results, but which are also very important to the work and effectiveness of a student and later practitioner in the health professions.

Timing and order of the test

HPAT-Ulster consists of 3 hours of test time. The three sections are separately timed and there are no breaks between sections. Sections 1 and 2 are presented in a single test book and questions are answered on the accompanying machine-readable answer sheet. Section 3 Written Communication is answered in a separate answer booklet.

Structure and Content

HPAT-Ulster consists of three sections, with a total test time of 3 hours. The first two sections are in multiple-choice format. The third section, Written Communication, is in the form of two essay tasks.
