What is HPAT-Ulster?

The Health Professions Admission Test (HPAT-Ulster) is a professionally designed and marked selection test developed to assess aptitude for study in the Allied Health Professions.

The test is used in the selection process by the University of Ulster for entry into the following courses:

The 2012 sitting of the test will be held on Saturday 28 January 2012.  There is only one sitting each year.

The test has been designed in consultation with the University of Ulster to assess a range of attributes considered important to the study and later practice of the health professions. It is designed to complement academic achievement, by providing assessment of skills in the areas of reasoning, understanding and working with people, and written communication. These skills have been identified as important for a competent health professional. HPAT-Ulster is not based on any curriculum or body of knowledge and presumes no particular field or discipline of prior study.

HPAT-Ulster has a strong focus on general skills and personal abilities. It does not test knowledge of the basic sciences.

Note: Registering to take HPAT-Ulster does not constitute an application for admission to the University of Ulster. In addition to registering for HPAT-Ulster, you would need to have submitted an application to UCAS by midnight GMT on 15 January 2012 in the usual way. Please refer to the back cover of the HPAT-Ulster information booklet for university contact details. You are strongly advised to visit their website and/or obtain a prospectus from the University of Ulster for further information.
